Q. What are the new installion requirements for Version 1.3 for Mac OSX?
|
A. There are a few new installation requirements for the Mac OSX. They are:
- You must uninstall any previous versions (for all users) prior to installing Version 1.3
- You are required to have administarion rights to install
- The application must be installed in the default location of /Applications

|
| Q. Why am I required to install the product in my home folder in Linux but not Windows or MacOSX? |
A. There are permission issues that have not been resolved with installing the application someplace other than your home folder. Each user of Linux will have to perform their own install at this time. Since a license is associated with a computer and not a user, the license can either be downloaded again or the file "softWoRxExplorer_License.key" that is found in the "AppliedPrecision" folder can be copied to each user's "AppliedPrecision" folder. |
|
Q. Do I get customer support and for how long?
|
A. Yes. Customer support can be obtained through our Sales Hotline. Support is only available for issues during installation and for 30 days after download of the software's license key.

|
Q. What are the hardware and operating systems requirements to use the software?
|
A. softWoRx Explorer was designed and tested to work in the diverse computer environment of biological sciences.
Computer Systems:
Windows Windows 2000 / Windows XP
Linux 7.2 and above
Macintosh OSX 10.2 / 10.3 / 10.4
You will need a minimum of 8+ MB on your graphics card with a true-color (24 bit+) display. A minimum of 256 MB of system memory is required but the software will operate much faster with 512 MB and above. Stacks of images can be quite large. The software loads and manipulates images in horizontal strips so you can load images larger than you have memory for. You are required to have approximately 100 MB of hard disk space free during the installation depending upon your O/S. A network card is required in the computer even if the computer is not connected to a network. This is a licensed product and the license is associated with the unique ID in your Ethernet cards.

| Q. How can I improve the speed/performance of softWoRx Explorer on my computer? |
A. Memory plays a significant role in the speed and performance of your computer. Especially with larger files, allocated more memory can improve the software's performance. Under Edit | Configuration Settings, you can adjust the Frame Buffer Size to find an optimal setting. Here are some suggested settings:
| Computer Memory | softWoRx Explorer - Frame Buffer Size |
| 256MB | 150MB |
| 512MB | 400MB |
| 1GB | 800MB |
|
|
| Q. What's the largest image file I can load with softWoRx Explorer? |
A. It depends on your computer and the amount of memory it has. You can view images that are larger than the amount of memory in your computer. For example, an image file over 2 GB in size can be viewed on a Windows XP, 1.7 GHz, 512 Mb laptop computer. After you install softWoRx Explorer, one of the first things you will want to do is set the amount of memory reserved for the application's image buffers. More memory equates to better performance, up to the point the entire image is contained in memory. The softWoRx Explorer application will use a maximum of 1.5 times an image's file size in memory. If you are dealing with large image files, we recommend leaving at least 100 Mb of memory for your operating system and allowing softWoRx Explorer to have the rest. The memory buffer size is set using Edit | Configuration Settings... and you must restart the application after changing the value before it takes effect. If you have 512 Mb of memory, set the slider to a value close to 400. |
